About
EdChanger was born from my 20+ years in education as a teacher, instructional coach, conflict resolution specialist, and systems coach—roles that still keep me in the classroom teaching lessons. These experiences have reinforced two crucial truths: schools are so diverse that no single solution will work—we need a system; and despite the challenges in education, the incredible work I've seen from educators in classrooms and schools proves that our system is not broken, but full of potential.
Our youth are our most valuable resource because they are our hope for the future. Students spend about 80% of their school day in the classroom, and our education system exists to support their learning and growth. It only makes sense to invest deeply in creating a coherent system of learning interactions in our classrooms.
One of the best parts of my job is working with incredible educators—paraeducators, teachers, counselors, specialists, and administrators—who care deeply about their students and communities. Despite the challenges in education, so many amazing things are happening in our schools. But this deep commitment often leads us to constantly searching for new tools and initiatives to support our communities, sometimes unintentionally creating systems that range from disjointed to chaotic.
In response to these challenges, schools invest heavily in professional development—hiring consultants, attending conferences, purchasing books, and participating in endless training sessions. Yet, despite these efforts, it remains difficult to measure the real impact of these investments, and the sense of crisis in education persists. Worse, the time and cost associated with these resources often make them inaccessible to many educators, limiting them to a select few.
This is where EdChanger comes in. Our mission of scaling and sustaining instructional systems is built on 20 years of love, frustration, research, and hope as an educator. We've developed a simple, coherent, accessible system and resources that ensure all educators, not just a select few, have the tools they need to grow. Unlike traditional models, our revolutionary approach to instructional coaching empowers educators as agents of their own learning, recognizing that they are the true experts of their students' needs. Our system aims to be a catalyst for real, lasting change in education.
Every teacher deserves the support of a coherent system that allows them to serve their students and communities with confidence, clarity, and impact.
Our Approach
At EdChanger, we've developed a revolutionary approach to instruction, leveraging data and analytics alongside high-quality resources to support teachers.
Our instructional system consists of eight key practices developed through years of research, studying instructional frameworks, and some support from AI. These practices align with what research and evidence point to as the most impactful instructional practices:
- Community & Relationships
- Intentionally Planning Routines
- Teaching Expectations
- Informed Supervision
- Opportunities to Respond
- Positive Feedback
- Corrective Feedback
- Targeted Support Strategies
As with any system, these practices create optimal learning conditions. For example, a classroom with strong routines and expectations but no positive interactions may be orderly but feel cold. On the other hand, a highly positive classroom without clear routines might be fun but also chaotic. Opportunities to respond keep students engaged and thinking. Each practice plays a critical role.
One of the biggest injustices in education is that teachers rarely have access to a simple, coherent system like this and the ability to practice.
Supporting teachers' growth is also challenge. With packed schedules, time with teachers is incredibly hard to come by, and access to learning and coaching can be expensive. For those who have access to consultants, coaching, and professional learning, analyzing instruction can feel subjective or disconnected. Teaching is deeply personal and full of creativity and individuality; an unintended consequence of subjective support and coaching is that it can sometimes feel like being asked to change who you are, and professional learning isn't always tailored to the personality of a teacher or class. Adding to the challenge, these supports are sometimes only available to a select few.
At EdChanger, our approach uses data and analytics to provide clear, measurable feedback for growth that allows educators to maintain their creativity by being agents of their learning. This system is also accessible to all teachers. Based on research and evidence, we suggest the following data points as optimal:
- 85-95% of students should be in the "maintain" phase of their relationship with the community 4-6 weeks into school
- 80-90% of students should engage in routines and meet expectations
- Teachers should physically monitor all spaces 1-2 times per work session
- 3-5 opportunities to respond (OTRs) per minute
- 70/30 student-to-teacher talk ratio
- 4:1 positive-to-negative interaction ratio
- 90% of students should respond to error correction
To support teachers experiencing these benchmarks and choosing what's best for their students, we've developed an app with interactive tools, that we call games, for each practice. The games on our app measure these data points and send the data to the teacher, along with suggested data points and targeted resources.
We no longer need to support teacher growth through subjective systems, especially ones with 20 or more vague indicators written long enough that most teachers barely know what they say. Instead, our app provides teachers with clear data on key performance indicators. This allows teachers to choose what they should refine based on the needs of their students, and high-quality resources to support their growth.
At EdChanger, our mission is simple: supporting teachers in supporting the students and communities they care so much about. We do this by allowing them to be agents of their own learning and growth through a system of data, analytics and high-quality resources because they are the experts on what their students need.
Our Process
A memorable line I heard at a conference was, "Repeating is not the same as creating." When I'm handed a lesson plan and told to teach it, it doesn't feel the same as when I create something myself. When a teacher is told how to teach by a coach, consultant, or professional learning, it can unintentionally strip away their personality and creativity when they try to repeat what they learned. Creating instruction is different from simply replicating it, and that distinction matters.
Even when a trusted, collaborative relationship that fosters creativity exists between a teacher and coach, translating learning into practical change takes time, effort, and consistency. With educators' packed schedules, this can be a challenge to sustain.
Our app helps by providing teachers with collected data and targeted resources, delivered straight to their email, so they can analyze and reflect on their own schedule. The objective data points allow teachers to assess their instruction using key performance indicators and explore strategies that best support their students. This approach empowers teachers to develop their own solutions rather than simply repeating prescribed methods.
That's not to say coaching and traditional professional learning aren't valuable, but the demands of our education system can make it difficult to invest the time needed for personalized support and strong relationships. EdChanger data can help bridge this gap; analyzing and reflecting on the data can spark meaningful coaching conversations. At the same time, the efficiency and objectivity of the EdChanger system ensure that growth remains accessible to all teachers, whether or not they have coaching or professional learning opportunities available to them.
Our One-Page HUB of resources is designed to be simple, organized, and comprehensive. It includes:
